HCSU Introduces the Creative Award

The Students’ Union Award for Creative Writing is a newly introduced SU competition which this year is focusing on promoting equality and diversity at the college group through creative and imaginative written works that captures and focuses the reader on a message relating to equality and diversity. The winners will win £40 worth of online shopping vouchers, a glass award and work published across the college group. All entries will be reviewed and selected out of third, second and first by a panel of SU and HCUK staff.

Any written work demonstrated through a story, poem and vocal is accepted, and the judges will be looking for high-quality writing, stories that demonstrate originality, imagination and creativity, and writers who can capture the reader and hold their attention.

Freshers’ Wristband! OVER 18

Freshers’ Wristbands are back, and better than ever! This year we have worked with some great local businesses to deliver a Freshers’ celebrations which everyone can enjoy and remember! The Wristband will be available at the SU Shop for the lost cost of £3 starting on 8th September. The promotional period lasts from the 15th – 19th September (HE Fresher’s Week).

We’re continuing to work with businesses in the local area to provide more events next week. Brace yourselves, more shall arrive!

Discounts:

  • Pozition: One free entry on any day of promotion, and one free drink.

Events:

  • Friday: The Sugar Mill Bar Crawl! £1 before 11:30PM, £3 after 11:30 with wristband.

Freshers’ Higher Education Week!

Freshers HE Week has arrived! This week we will welcome hundreds of new and returning Higher Education students to the college. We have a fantastic lineup of events this week, and plenty of over 18 events to celebrate!

Monday – Meet Your Student Union: The Student Union team will be visiting a classroom near you! We’ll give you all the information you need for the next week of Freshers events, and it’s the perfect opportunity to ask your officers any questions!

Tuesday – Student Day: Meet local businesses and services which may come in handy during your studies at Hull College! Drop by at the HE Centre from 10AM to 2PM!

Wednesday – Freshers’ Fair: The Freshers’ Fair is our annual, and main event of the week at Hull College for students! We’ll be on the Tower Block forecourt with a marquee full of businesses and services for your students. Viking FM & Xercise 4 Less will be challenging students on holding a bag of weights for the longest! Krispy Kreme will be selling some insanely tasty doughnuts, and Army Careers will have a giant wrecking ball! Lots of fun for everyone to enjoy!

Thursday – Community Day: We welcome all the local community causes & organisations into Hull College for the day! Drop by the HE Centre and meet causes which are important to you. It is also the perfect opportunity to volunteer!

Friday – Cool Down Day: It’s been a busy week! Relax with your friends in the HE Centre’s Common Room while playing some games and listening to music!

Freshers’ Weeks Guide – Digital Edition

Freshers’ Weeks is soon approaching with the first event starting next Monday! We’ve been working hard on creating a Freshers’ Guide booklet which will be your perfect companion for Freshers’ Weeks 2014 at Hull College. The Guidebook covers both weeks of events, the Higher Education and the Further Education weeks. But remember, all students can visit any events on both weeks!!

Keep your eye out on Freshers’ Guide booklets around the college campus next Thursday as well, feel free to pick one up or alternatively pick up an official goodie bag for a copy!

Do you love playing games? Do you want to make games? Platform Studios and Hull College Student Union presents a fantastic gaming event for Further Education and Higher Education students at Hull College. Talk to indie game developers from the local area and learn how your course could lead to a future in the game industry!

Louis Dean an indie game developer from Hull presents a talk about his successful game “Spectra”, and how his game is now the first UK indie title for the next generation Xbox One platform. The will also be a female game developer presenting a talk on their perspective on an industry which is dominated by men.

Play the games which were developed by local indie game developers on the latest next generation Xbox One consoles, or challenge your friends on a LAN gaming match! It’s going to be an amazing event for everybody to enjoy so don’t miss it!

Freshers 2014: 2 Weeks

Freshers’ 2014 is only two weeks away now at Hull College Group! We’re very excited to begin! From our traditional fair with all the freebies, to the Digital Hub with a LAN gaming match with your mates and a community event welcoming all the local causes. The is something for everyone this year! So have fun and more importantly grab those freebies!

Over 18 Events will be announced soon! We’re still continuing discussions with local partners for event days and great discounts in the local area.

Events at Hull College:

We’ve got a whole marquee of businesses and causes in the local area offering student discount & services. The will be a tasty BBQ outside and lots of entertainment! You don’t want to miss this!
  • Meet Your Student Union (FE: 8th September, HE: 15th September)Your Student Union will be visiting a classroom near you! We’ll give all the information you need regarding events at Freshers, and how the Union benefits your student life during your studies at Hull College.
  • Student Day (FE: 9th September, HE: 16th September)Looking for freebies, and useful student services in the local area? Well we’ve packed the HE Centre with businesses which are offering services for you during your students in Hull.
  • Community Day (FE: 10th September, HE: 18th September)Hull College welcomes local causes to meet students like you! Learn about your local community and maybe even volunteer at a local store!
  • Cool Down Day (FE: 12th September, HE: 19th September)It’s been a hectic week of meeting new friends, and experiencing lots of  Freshers’ events! Now chill out in the HE Centre with a hot drink and lovely background music! Student WiFi available for all too!
